The world of Community Engagement is rapidly expanding and evolving. More and more public, private and not-for-profit sector organisations are recognising the value of engaging those affected by their decisions and are embracing a mix of techniques, technologies and tools to carry this out.

Held at the InterContinental Hotel, Adelaide, South Australia the Conference was part of Open State an initiative of Premier Jay Wetherill and the South Australian Department of Premier and Cabinet. Open State was a 10-day program of events exploring how open and transparent decision-making, innovation and engagement can address the complex challenges of the future. Open State brought more than 10,000 people together with four national conferences.

The following organisations joined IAP2 Australasia as conference partners:







Held over ten days, Open State included national conferences, workshops and symposiums in Adelaide – celebrating South Australia as a place open to the world’s best ideas and as a leader in collaboration to solve complex problems.

Open State connected leading national and international experts with people in our community to explore how new ideas and collaboration can create the path to the future.

Open State featured four national conferences:

  • Institute of Public Administration (IPAA) National Conference
  • Integrity 2016 – Inaugural Conference
  • Australian information Industry Association (AIIA) National Event
  • 2016 IAP2 Australasia Conference - The Future of Engagement and Democracy

In addition, there was a range of independent events including:

  • Adelaide Festival of Ideas
  • Of the People symposium organised by the New Democracy Foundation.
